USE A HELOC FOR HOME RENOVATIONS
A Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) lets homeowners borrow against their home’s equity—like a credit card—for renovations. During the 5–10 year draw period, you only pay interest on what you use, with principal payments beginning afterward. It’s great for flexible or phased projects, and interest may be tax-deductible.
However, HELOCs can carry risks, including variable interest rates and large payments after the draw period. Since your home is collateral, defaulting could lead to foreclosure. Alternatives include a cash-out refinance or a renovation loan with fixed terms.
